From a first O. Henry Award in 2009 to two selections in the Best American Series, five of Muñoz's stories have been recognized in the nation's top anthologies celebrating short fiction.
The 2022 collection The Consequences features four of these: the O. Henry Award-winning "The Reason Is Because" and "The Happiest Girl in the Whole U.S.A.," as well as "Anyone Can Do It," which has been honored with an appearance in Best American Short Stories 2019 and included in The Penguin Book of the Modern American Short Story. "Compromisos" is slated to appear in Best American Short Stories 2023.
